Slow internet speed on Windows 11? Here are 5 ways to fix it for good…

A slow internet speed on your Windows PC is more than enough to break your workflow. Constant buffering or even connectivity drops in between will irk the most patient of Windows users.

Thankfully, even if the Windows operating system is rife with random bugs like these, it packs a lot of troubleshooting methods, which can fix your slow internet speed problem. Let’s look at all of them one by one.

How to fix slow internet speed in Windows 11

There are many ways you could go about this. The most popular and evergreen ways to counter a slow internet speed problems on Windows 11 is through the in-built hacks.

If none of those methods give any substantial result, then you can give popular, all-pulverize of the Windows a go—i.e., the Factory reset. But let’s focus on the simpler, less complex solutions first. So let’s get started.

1. Disable your VPN

Even though a VPN is a mandatory requirement in the ever-increasing privacy bereft world we’re fast approaching—and that’s probably why even Microsoft is offering a VPN on its Edge browser now—using it doesn’t come without costs. By masking your IP addresses, a VPN adds an extra layer of steps for transferring data packets to and fro from your ISP.

If your internet connection is already on the slower end of the spectrum, then buying and adding a VPN on top of it is expected to slow things down even more.

So, to make sure if it’s really the VPN that’s the cause of slow internet speed on your Windows 11, try turning it off for a while. If you see an instant boost in your internet speed, you now know what the error was.

2. Run the troubleshooter

At the risk of repeating myself, I’ll say again that bugs like this are a common affair in the personal computing world. Although Microsoft has surely done a lot to get rid of random errors like these, Windows is still far from perfect.

They know it as well, and that’s why they’ve provided a dedicated tool to troubleshoot bugs like this.

You can try and fix the slow internet speed of Windows 11 by running this troubleshooting guide. You can access it from the Troubleshooting settings of your PC. Here’s how.

  • Head to the Start menu search bar, type in ‘settings,’ and select the best match. The settings menu will be launched.
  • Now, select System > Other troubleshooters.
  • Once there, look for the Internet Connections option and click on Run.
  • The troubleshooter will start scanning for errors on your system and will solve them if it finds any.

3. Restart your PC

At times, a quick reboot is all what your PC needs. Surprisingly, it’s known to solve a lot of problems as well. In short, it works by clearing away everything from RAM, giving your PC a fresh restart. So, to restart your PC, click on the Start button, and then navigate to and click on Restart.

4. Update your network driver

A driver on Windows is a program that lets your operating system and other software and hardware work together. A network driver then, as the name suggests, is what connects your internet enabling hardware to work with your operating system, which then allows you to connect with the internet.

So if there’s something off with your network driver, things are bound to go off with your internet as well. To check if your network driver is causing your Windows 11 internet to slow down, you’ll have to use the Device Manager. Here’s how.

  1. Head to the Start menu, type in ‘device manager,’ and select the best match.
  2. On the Device Manger, select the Network adapters, and right-click on the internet adapter.
  3. Select the Update driver.

If new updates are available, your network adapter will get updated in a few seconds or minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection right now.

5. Reset network settings

Still stuck with a slow internet speed on your Windows? In that case, as a last resort, you can try resetting your network settings and see if that gets out of the system rut.

Again, you’ll be using the Settings menu for this. Press the Windows key + I to open the menu.

From there, click on the Network & internet tab and then select Advanced Network Settings.

From there, select Network reset. Then click on the Reset now button to being the reset process.

network reset

That’s it. Do this and your settings should be back to network settings should be back to normal in no time.

Fixing the slow internet speed on Windows 11

These are some of the best methods to fix your PC’s slow internet speed problem. If none of the methods have worked so far, though, then perhaps what you should go for is a factory reset. Some issues don’t get fixed, regardless of what fixes you might try, but in my experience, factory reset tends to do the job fairly well for almost all errors and problems.
